More and more companies and corporations are seeing the need for clean energy, and ski resorts are among those realizing that wind power is a good idea. The Crested Butte ski area has opted to try wind power on for size and has purchased 27,000 megawatts of the wind-generated power. Crested Butte ski area realizes that this is simply a good move economically, ecologically, and will help build a better tomorrow for the Crested Butte community. Many are excited about the fact that Crested Butte is investing in clean energy, including Crested Butte. Though their initial investment is relatively small, there’s no doubt future purchases will be substantially larger.
Of course, Crested Butte is not alone in buying the wind generated power; in fact it seems to be a growing trend. Triple Peaks LLC, which operates Okemo Mountain Resort in Vermont as well as Mount Sunapee Resort in New Hampshire, has also decided to go for wind generated power. With power rates rising, more and more ski resorts that provide visitors with ski homes and ski condos realize that this may be a more efficient way to handle the electricity needs of the resort. Only time will tell if this can become the soul source of power, but for now it appears that Crested Butte is not the only resort that sees the validity of the wind generated power.
In addition to these resorts, Aspen Skiing Company has also purchased 22,000 megawatts of power and the Vail Resorts have reportedly purchased 152,000 megawatts of the wind power. Crested Butte along with the others states they are simply looking to find a clean energy source that will allow Americans to be independent for their energy needs, and this is a good way to go about that.
In addition to simply being a good idea, Crested Butte ski area has reported that it would actually give back an undisclosed percentage of the energy purchase to help develop a renewable energy resource for the state. Aspen Skiing Company has decided to do the same thing, giving five percent of its investment to Colorado based power. Vail plans to receive their power from Kansas, North Dakota, as well as Minnesota.
The clean power simply makes sense for the big and the small resorts that use a lot of energy running the resort, their rental ski homes, shops, lifts, and more. No one realizes how much it costs to run the resorts and the ski homes, and the clean energy is just a good business decision that anyone can appreciate. More and more ski resorts are looking into the wind powered energy because it seems to align well with the business. And with rising prices of energy everyone is looking for new and more efficient means of energy. Many ski resorts believe that wind powered energy is the future of the ski industry, and why not? It seems to make sense and it could actually make running ski resorts and ski homes that rent much cheaper and more efficient.
